Stepping up to the 1,750 km Goa–Ooty–Goa monster — the toughest ultra route in India.
In 2018 I finished 3rd in the 1,750 km distance of The Ultra Spice Race. The route starts from Goa and traverses the Western Ghats through Honnavar, Jog Falls, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Wayanad, Sultan Bathery and Ooty before returning to Goa.
The cumulative elevation gain is about 70,000 feet within 1,750 km, which makes this endurance race the toughest in India.
About the event. The Ultra Spice Race starts on Bogmalo beach in Goa and follows the coast across coconut-lined creeks before turning inland at Honnavar, where the route climbs through the forests and plantations of the south — Jog Falls, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Bhage, Wayanad, Sultan Bathery and Ooty — before returning along the coast to finish back on the beach. The cumulative elevation gain is about 22,415 m over 1,750 km, which makes it the toughest ultra race in India. It is recognised by the World Ultra Cycling Association and organised by Inspire India. A finish within the stipulated time is also a Race Across America qualifier.
