Half the height of Everest in a single indoor ride — the Base Camp Challenge, dialled in to under six hours.
About the challenge. Climbing half the height of Everest — 4,424 m — in a single activity is known as Half-Everesting, or the Base Camp Challenge. Like full Everesting, the virtual format is ridden indoors on an online platform paired with a smart interactive trainer, and it too saw a huge surge in popularity through the pandemic.
Bharat rode it on the Alpe du Zwift climb using a TacX Neo trainer with ZWIFT — the same GPS-accurate replica of Alpe d'Huez, 21 hairpins at an average 8.5% gradient. Over repeated lockdown attempts he reduced his time from 6 hours 01 minutes to 5 hours 53 minutes.
